NBA Headquarters

As the content and audiovisual design project manager, I led the NBA Headquarters project in NYC, overseeing the implementation of various interactive displays and audiovisual elements. This project was part of the development of the NBA ticker application, a web-based platform specifically designed for the newly-built NBA Headquarters.

The NBA ticker application served as part of a larger digital signage system, which included large nonstandard displays called 'The Post' located on every floor of the NBA Headquarters. These displays provided live data, including the NBA playoffs scoreboard, weather updates, NYC's MTA train statuses, upcoming game schedules, and the current times at global offices. The NBA ticker application was an integral component of this system, delivering real-time NBA scores, weather information, and train statuses.

To accomplish this, we integrated multiple third-party APIs to gather the necessary data. For the NBA playoffs scoreboard, we utilized an NBA API that provided real-time game scores, team statistics, and player information. My team implemented a seamless update mechanism to ensure the latest scores were always displayed on 'The Post' displays.

In addition to the NBA data, we incorporated a weather API to fetch current weather conditions and forecasts for the NYC area. This allowed the NBA Headquarters staff to stay informed about the weather while checking the NBA scores on 'The Post' displays.

To provide timely information for commuters, we integrated the MTA API to retrieve train statuses, delays, and service changes for the nearby subway stations. This feature enhanced the utility of 'The Post' displays by offering relevant transportation updates alongside NBA scores and weather.

Furthermore, as part of the NBA Headquarters project, we developed interactive wayfinding kiosks throughout the facility. These kiosks provided visitors with a 'you are here' location, confirmed the availability of conference rooms, and offered directions to specific personnel in the office. We implemented a badge authentication system to ensure security while accessing the kiosk features.

The NBA ticker application and wayfinding kiosks were displayed on LG's 58:9 aspect ratio Ultra Stretch signage displays, strategically located at each stair landing on every floor of the NBA Headquarters. The web app not only provided dynamic content and informative displays but also served as signage, indicating the visitor's current floor and offering valuable information.

The integration of an internal company API allowed us to display company-wide announcements specific to the NBA Headquarters. This feature ensured that employees and visitors were always informed about important updates and events within the facility, with the flexibility for future revisions.
